Now that we know who Iowa's gubernatorial candidates will be, perhaps we can get them to focus on important things...not regulating speech or hiring PR consultants, but maybe on things like making sure we're ready for natural and man-made disasters.

Despite what seems like a lot of alarmism in the media about the return of hurricane season, anything that gets politicians to focus on the big-picture stuff (like the fact that the Pacific Northwest isn't ready for a tsunami) is probably to our advantage as taxpayers.

Here's a surprising winner for the Yay Capitalism, Baby prize: Britain, for introducing a ratings system for doctors. If ratings systems are good enough for movies and hotels, why shouldn't they be good enough for the people cutting you open for surgery?
