Market Economies are Good for the Environment II
300 million Chinese -- more than the entire population of the United States -- have unsafe drinking water. The government there says it has a plan to fix the problem...by 2020. Only market economies in free societies have the incentive structures (like organized action groups and democratic votes) and the means (both the economic resources and the technological know-how) to solve environmental problems.

The law may be popular with voters, but not so much with stores. Returned bottles and cans are particularly unsanitary, and the deposit law doesn't do much to compensate the stores for the expense.

Ukrainian Presidential Debate Gets Nasty
Reformer Yushchenko says, "You and your team have stolen three million votes." Hard-liner Yanukovych says, "If you win the vote you will only be the president of part of Ukraine." And he said it in Russian instead of Ukranian. A Polish team is knitting a giant orange scarf as a sign of solidarity with the reformers, having gone through the puppet-state-of-Moscow thing themselves for half a century.
