Socialism Doesn't Work Now is precisely the wrong time to let up on entitlement spending
Unfortunately, Fred Thompson is the only Presidential candidate who seems interested in making entitlement reform an issue in the 2008 Presidential campaign. It would be better for all of us if more candidates acted as though it were the important issue it really is. If we don't fix entitlement spending, the US can kiss long-term prosperity goodbye. Related: As we become better and better at delaying death, it will be fascinating to watch how we figure out what to do with our older selves. Some people think the results will be apocalyptic for many, but on the other hand we may simply find ourselves replacing those parts of our bodies that get worn out -- which would leave only the major debilitating diseases of the brain to be overcome.

Agriculture Drought hits Australians right in the pocketbook
Drought has made a mess of agriculture in Australia, in turn pushing prices for fruits and vegetables up by 30% to 45% in the last two years. Changes like that make it seem pretty silly to remove food and energy from inflation figures...after all, those are core components of many people's consumption budgets. Food prices are also up dramatically in the UK.
