Business and Finance Is the Treasury Secretary using "gangster logic"?
That's the phrase used by an official of the Chinese central bank. Hank Paulson apparently thinks the Chinese have been saving too much, which in turn encouraged domestic investors to chase riskier investments. The fight would be funny if it weren't so potentially perilous. Banks all over the developed world are having trouble making ends meet, and taxpayers are being held accountable for keeping them afloat. Meanwhile, Americans continue to pull billions of dollars out of equities like it's Armageddon. And the staggering projected growth in US Federal debt is enough to set even the sane into fits of paranoia.
